This article refers to the uncapturable Ninetales of the Hora region. Refer to Bulbapedia for the species of Ninetales.

Ninetales is known to wander Hora, though most sightings of the Ninetales was in Illusion Forest. Due to this, the residents of Gardenia Town and Freesia Town have held a custom of staying in their homes at night whenever a wild Ninetales was sighted. This Ninetales is uncapturable by trainers because it already had an owner, though it remains unclear who the owner of this Ninetales was. Ninetales has been a target of Team Rocket in the past, though it is uncertain whether the criminal organization is continuing their efforts to capture Ninetales.

Some legends state that this Ninetales wandered Hora for over a hundred years, terrorizing those who disturb it. Wives' tales say that this Ninetales torments young children who stay out in the night, though there is no evidence of the Ninetales actually doing so. All of the attempts to tame the Ninetales resulted in failure, with the volunteers stating that they do not want to make a second attempt.

Biography[]

Little is known about Ninetales, other than that it had an owner who did not keep it in its pokéball. The owner is presumed to have passed away without passing on Ninetales to a new owner, causing Ninetales to wander around Hora without an owner. It was known to frequent the Illusion Forest, affecting the bordering towns of Gardenia and Freesia.

Personality and traits[]

Not only does Ninetales not feel lonely, it also does not appear to even want a new owner, as it never appeared to have attempted to look for one. This Ninetales appears and leaves as it pleases, holding no bonds with any trainer. Ninetales appears to revel in chaotic events, though it does not like to involve itself too deeply in unrelated affairs. Although Team Rocket has made several attempts to steal Ninetales, they were foiled by Ninetales' Extrasensory ability.

Ninetales proved itself to be insightful and very intelligent, as it has been able to outsmart Team Rocket on occasions. It can project illusions to deceive others, though that ability could hardly be considered a pokémon move. Ninetales is also capable of communicating in the human language, albeit it only communicates through telepathy.
