Quite simply because I was informed that my character would be permitted to kill, seeing as how the manga was considerably violent.

Actually, my friend, Ten and I both considered Jason having an early encounter with Slade. But no worries, no main characters will suffer such atrocities, that'd be unfair and absurd.
